The 3.0-liter modification of the JZ engine appeared a year later than the 2.5-liter, that is, in 1991, and was distinguished by a large piston stroke and a 14-millimeter higher cylinder block. In all other respects, this is a similar in-line six with a cast-iron block and a 24-valve cylinder head without hydraulic lifters, and the camshafts are also driven here by a toothed belt. As in the younger unit, the intake manifold is equipped with the ACIS variable geometry system.
The 3.0-liter engine was upgraded a year later than its counterpart, that is, in 1997, and its essence was the same: a VVT-i variable valve timing system appeared at the intake, and the outdated ignition system with a distributor gave way to a more modern type DIS-3.
