Audi 888 engine reported P0016
Feedback from the garage, replacing an Audi 888 engine, unstable idle, fault light illuminated, fault P0016 reported.
Failure causes analysis
- Read the engine fault code as P0016 with Audi Special Inspection cleared the fault, and went out, but the fault reappeared.
- If there is a suspected VVT solenoid valve problem, remove the VVT solenoid valve power action test, which can be a normal action, and back to normal, check the VVT line voltage is normal, proving that the VVT solenoid valve works properly.
- Check whether the VVT plunger is stuck or inactive manually press the plunger, it can move normally and return to the normal position to prove that the VVT plunger is working properly.
- Check the crankshaft and camshaft position sensor circuit voltage multimeter to measure the line voltage, are in the normal range, the power line 5v, signal line 5v and beat iron line 0V.
- Measurement of low-pressure oil pressure, remove the low-pressure sensor plug link oil pressure gauge, and measure the idle speed and acceleration oil pressure by detecting the total speed pressure of about 1.5, the data show that the oil pressure is normal.
- Suspected VVT mechanical system and timing system problems, read the crankshaft and camshaft waveforms and is connected to the oscilloscope, often vehicle comparisons, found that there is a deviation from the waveform wrong one tooth.
- According to the oscilloscope to measure the waveform there is a deviation of one tooth, suspected camshaft or VVT sprocket failure, replace the original camshaft with VVT sprocket, replacement the fault remains.
- When the camshaft was replaced, there was no problem comparing the timing-related parts such as the original block and head, as well as the crankshaft and camshaft markings after the timing marks were aligned.
- Problem solved, to the point where the final problem will continue to be confirmed, comparing the cylinder head camshaft position mounting holes, no anomalies were found.
- Replace the camshaft position sensor again, the fault also disappeared, out from the test car normally.
