How to overhaul Chevrolet Aveo with ABS light on after replacing front wheel bearings?

A 2014 SAIC-GM Chevrolet Aveo sedan with about 70,000km. The vehicle’s ABS light came on after replacing the front wheel bearings, and the brake pedal popped during braking. Let’s analyze it together!

SAIC-GM Chevrolet Aveo sedan diagnostic analysis

Tested the brake system control unit and found that the C1226-Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor was malfunctioning. Remove the sensor to check, that there is no abnormality. Clear the fault code road test, the fault lamp did not light up, anti-lock brake function is also normal. It is suspected that it is an occasional failure.

The fault still exists. Tested again and found that the fault code remains the same. Through the maintenance manual to understand the fault code generation conditions is the right front wheel speed sensing signal instability. The brake pedal bounces off the foot, indicating that there has been a sudden change in wheel speed during braking. Considering that this problem appeared after replacing the right front wheel bearing, it was decided to check it thoroughly.

The right front half shaft was removed to expose the magnetic code ring on the bearing. Close inspection revealed an imperceptible depression in the code ring. Analysis suggests that this depression causes the gap between the code ring and the sensor to become larger, making the output signal from the sensor unstable.

Fault resolution

Replaced the right front wheel bearing and the problem was solved.
