What is the cause of oil leakage from the crankshaft rear oil seal?

Wauling Zhiguang 465 QR engine, the crankshaft rear oil seal leaking oil was replaced once with a different brand of oil seal, and half a month later it leaked again. What is the reason for this?

Engine crankshaft rear oil seal leaking

Oil seal leakage causes

Oil seal leakage can be categorized into peripheral leakage, edge leakage, and leakage due to non-quality reasons.

There are reasons for peripheral oil leaks:

  • The oil seal is loose.
  • The oil seal is tilted.

  • Oil seal deformation.
  • Scratches on the outer circumference of the oil seal.

  • Abnormal dimensional appearance of oil seals.

The causes of oil leakage from the cutting edge are:

  • Oil seal edge wear or bias wear.
  • Oil seal edge aging.
  • The oil seal spring falls off.
  • The surface of the shaft is scratched or the rock roughness is too poor.
  • The eccentricity of the shaft is serious.
  • Wrong direction of oil seal.

Non-quality causes of oil leakage are:

  • Poor lubrication.
  • A foreign object stuck in the lip.
  • Excessive crankcase system pressure.
  • Abnormally high-temperature stagnant lip hardening.

Inspection steps

1. Remove the gearbox, find that the oil seal leaks a lot of oil, and the oil seal surface has no other foreign objects or dust and dirt.

2. When the oil seal was pressed axially with a finger, closer inspection revealed that the lower part of the oil seal had come out and interfered with the flywheel disk, which was already showing wear.

3. Carefully remove the oil seal and carefully inspect the seal to make sure that the lips are not abnormally worn, the outside diameter is normal in size and the spring is installed correctly.

4. Oil seals generally do not appear out of the situation for no reason, the engine crankcase ventilation system was for inspection, and after careful investigation found that: the crankcase ventilation pipe PCV check valve is blockage, and the pipeline has been seriously blocked, resulting in the crankcase exhaust can not be discharged promptly; the crankcase pressure is too high, the engine crankshaft top out of the sealing oil oil oil leakage from it.

5. There is a blockage in the PCV check valve.

6. The line has been severely clogged.

Maintenance treatment measures

Cleaned the crankcase vent line and replaced the PCV check valve and crankshaft rear oil seal, and the vehicle remained normal one month later.
