What’s with the EA211 engine turbocharger noise?

Fault phenomenon

When accelerating the vehicle front noise, is similar to the sound of metal friction.

Fault detection

The fault is reproducible, starting the engine accelerates sharply to 1800~2500r/min when the noise occurs. It was carefully confirmed that the noise came from the turbocharger.

Generally, turbocharger rattles come from the turbocharger bypass valve mechanism, i.e., actuator linkage/rocker pin position, shaft rod and bushing position, and valve cover position.

Abnormal wear of the rocker’s arm and spring washer causes the shaft and bushing to axial play.

Abnormal wear of the rocker’s arm and spring washer due to insufficient rocker arm stiffness and spring washer spring failure.
Abnormal wear of the rocker’s arm and spring washer and spring washer elasticity deterioration leads to axial play.

Troubleshooting

Replace the improved turbocharger assembly.
